Silke Kruse-Weber is professor for instrumental and vocal pedagogy at the University of Art in Graz, head of the institute for music pedagogy and chair of the curriculum commission for instrumental and vocal pedagogy. Her work focuses on the further development of curricula in instrumental and vocal pedagogy, activating university didactics, the promotion of reflective practitioners and the promotion of young academics.

Research & work areas
Research in instrumental and vocal pedagogy is very important to me. I really appreciated the exchange with (inter) national working colleagues and at the same time was able to get involved in some working groups. In recent years these have been the “design based research” working group and the “Research Association for Scientific Music Education”. Finally, there is a special focus on promoting young academics.

In accordance with the main focus of my work, my lectures and workshops cover a wide range of topics in both didactic and scientific fields. The framework also varies between (inter) national conferences, music schools, music schools, music colleges, music associations, professional societies and scientific working groups.

Supervision & teaching
The objectives, content and didactic considerations of my instrumental and vocal teaching university teaching are characterized by a close connection between research and teaching, and a penetration of theory and practice as well as art and education. The general recommendations of working groups for the revision of music education training at music universities or music colleges (including Innovative Conservatoire (ICON), DMR, ALMS, DGfMM), the current (lively) professional discussion, the professional profile and professional fields of the instrumental and vocal teacher are taken into account in a changing society, my personal job-related experiences and my very personal career. A range of topics with a wide range of content can and should promote the individual profile of students.

Symposia & projects
In an (inter) disciplinary approach, the acquisition and mediation of music or the instrumental and vocal learning and teaching of music is explored. The findings are generated through a historical, empirical, systematic and comparative research approach. In the course of constantly changing fields of practice and job profiles, scientific music education enables everyday theories and existing educational experience to be evaluated and new approaches to the acquisition and communication of music to be developed.

Meet4Music
Meet4Music is a platform for making music and performing games together, which aims to give people of all ages and backgrounds, as well as with different prior knowledge, access to making music together and artistic expression. In addition, the project combines free elective and social initiative. Students of all fields of study can take Meet4Music as a free elective and help shape it creatively.

A cooperation between the Institute for Music Education and the Institute for Ethnomusicology at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
